Television personality and actress Maria Menounos has recently revealed her battle with Stage 2 pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour, a form of cancer. Menounos has experienced multiple health issues, including a benign brain tumour and Type 1 diabetes in the past. She underwent surgery earlier this year to remove the tumour, alongside a part of her pancreas, her spleen, a fibroid, and 17 lymph nodes.

The diagnosis came after she sought another opinion when she experienced pain in her abdomen. Menounos emphasized the importance of seeking medical help without delay, particularly for early detection and treatment. Early detection, as evident in Menounos’s case, can lead to a higher chance of successful treatment.

Pancreatic cancer has a notorious reputation for being difficult to diagnose, often resulting in diagnoses in later stages. In the US, it accounts for 3% of all diagnosed cancers and 7% of cancer-related fatalities. By the time symptoms arise, the cancer has often become advanced and surgical options are limited. Hence, early detection strategies are crucial for the effective treatment and management of this cancer.

Menounos’s experience serves as a reminder for the need to prioritize our health and wellbeing. It is vital to seek medical attention for any unexplained symptoms and concerns. Risk factors for pancreatic cancer include age, hereditary factors, chronic pancreatitis, diabetes, and lifestyle habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption.

In light of her experiences, Menounos has urged others to be proactive about their health and not let fear discourage them from seeking medical help. Her story sheds light on the importance of early detection and serves as a compelling reminder to prioritize our health and wellbeing.
