Houston Astros player Jose Altuve’s home was burglarized on March 29, resulting in a loss of $1 million worth of jewelry, including 13 watches. Four suspects have been arrested and held accountable for the robbery. Patrick Bernard Maxey, Jordan Tarnellia, William Jones Jr., and Jasmyn Hall are in custody following police investigations that linked them to the heist. Hall was charged with hindering apprehension and evading arrest for helping Jones escape from officers on April 13 in connection to the burglary.
According to the Houston Police Department, burglars entered Altuve’s home by manipulating a plant on the back porch and breaking in through a window. Further investigation revealed that Maxey was at Altuve’s home using his cell phone to send and receive messages at the time of the burglary. Surveillance footage also linked all the suspects to the area.
Moises Selena Tarniella, who admitted being the getaway driver, said he was not paid for his job. However, cell phone data suggested that he was present in the vicinity of the robbery when it happened.
The suspects face charges of burglary of a habitation. Brady Morgan Maxey, Darian Tarniella, and Leland Dexter Jeffrey Jones Jr. were also accused of stealing Altuve’s World Series ring, a National League Championship ring, and a cash reward. Police found a pawn receipt for one of the rings at Maxey’s home. A GPS tracker discovered at the Goodwill store was identified as belonging to Tarniella’s mother.
There is no evidence suggesting that any of the Astros’ players were involved in the burglary, and Altuve has made no public comment on the issue. Houston Astros fans expressed outrage and sympathy upon hearing the news of the burglary.
