Former US President Donald Trump defended his 2005 comments about sexually assaulting women when he gave a deposition in a lawsuit filed by author E. Jean Carroll. Carroll has accused Trump of raping her in the changing room of a department store in New York City in the 1990s. Trump has denied the allegations, claiming not to know the writer. The deposition, which was part of a lawsuit alleging that the former president raped Carroll and then defamed her by calling her allegations “a Hoax and a lie” in a Truth Social post in October, reveals Trump standing by his comments from a 2005 Access Hollywood tape.

When questioned about his remarks on grabbing women, Trump responded, “if you look over the last million years, I guess that’s been largely true. Not always, but largely true. Unfortunately or fortunately.” Trump also expressed his negative sentiments toward Carroll by calling her a liar and insulting her lawyer, Roberta Kaplan.

Jurors are expected to rule on whether there is enough evidence to prove Trump committed battery, and if so, whether it was forcible touching, sex abuse, or rape. They will also decide on what compensatory and punitive damages should be awarded and whether Trump’s Truth Social post was made with actual malice.

Carroll’s lawsuit is seeking to force Trump to pay damages for alleged defamation after he denied the allegations she made against him. Trump, however, denied the allegations, claiming not to know her despite a photograph of the pair together.

In conclusion, Trump’s deposition in the lawsuit brought against him by E. Jean Carroll raises serious questions about his character and integrity. His inappropriate comments and lack of remorse for them further highlight the need for accountability and consequences for those who commit sexual assault and misconduct. As this case moves forward, it is crucial that the legal system sends a message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
