Stellantis is recalling more than 20,000 Ram trucks and Jeep vehicles for two separate issues. The US automaker has discovered that some vehicles have the potential for engine stalling, while others may be affected by premature high-pressure fuel pump failure. The recall covers nearly 60,000 vehicles in the US and other countries, including Canada.

The first issue affects 19,214 Ram 1500s and Ram 1500 Classic pickups with 5.7-liter V8 engines and eTorque systems. A fault with the powertrain control module software may result in incorrect fuel mixture in the engine, leading to engine stalling. Of the total, 636 warranty claims related to the issue have been recorded, but no accidents or injuries.

The second recall covers 45,711 Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators, as well as 2022-23 Ram 1500s, with 3-liter diesel engines. A further 5,654 vehicles in Canada and elsewhere are also affected. The issue relates to high-pressure fuel pumps that may fail prematurely. The component, made by German manufacturer Bosch, could limit the fuel flow to the engine. So far, 126 warranty claims have been reported without accidents or injuries.

Customers will be notified about the recalls in June, but Stellantis has not yet developed a fix for the engine stalling issue. The Detroit automaker has issued a global recall notice for nearly 220,000 Jeep Cherokee SUVs produced between 2014 and 2016 due to concerns that the power liftgates can catch fire even when engines are not running. There have been nearly 50 incidents of damaged cars, in addition to warranty and field data reports. The company is warning owners to park the vehicles outdoors and away from other cars, and liftgates may stop working before catching fire.

Stellantis has been proactive in its recall efforts to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its customers. Despite the inconvenience of the recall process, customers are urged to take the necessary steps to have their vehicles repaired and to follow Stellantis’ advice on how to minimise any potential risk until these repairs can be carried out. Stellantis has prominently displayed information on its homepage regarding the recalls and has provided contact details for customers who require further information or assistance.
